It's Premier League match time when Wigan Athletic host Stoke City at DW Stadium on Saturday, December 4.
Wigan stay ensconced in relegation zone after a 3-1 loss to West Ham in match week 15. Cleverley was the stand out performer in a game of missed opportunities for Wigan, none more so than a poorly taken penalty by Boselli when the Latics were 2-0 down. West Ham were the better of two poor teams, on the day.Wigan's back-line dithered when it mattered resulting in West Ham going ahead against the run of play which was of poor quality on both sides. Thereafter the Hammers appeared to revive thereafter. Wigan Shedsmissed Rodallega who will have to play a big role if Wigan want to get their campaign back on track.
Stoke are coming off a 1-1 home draw against Man City, creditable under the circumstances with the hosts equalizing on 90 minutes after City went ahead nine minutes earlier. Always tough customers at home, Stoke displayed the never say die attitude that has seen them rise to the top half of the league table. Shawcross and Whitehead played well as did Pennant who was replaced by Tuncay in the second half of the game. There were missed opportunities galore for Stoke in a match they dominated particularly the first half. It was a great team effort against title aspirants Manchester City and Stoke will take heart from that. Now, if only Stoke could show the same gumption in away matches...
Head to head, the last 8 league matches between the sides have been shared with 2 wins each while 4 games have ended in draws. Three of the last four have ended in stalemates, with two of those hosted by the Latics.
